Each pressure cooker made by Hawkins features an inside fitting lid. This design is inherently safer than conventional pressure cookers. To open any Hawkins cooker, you have to first lower the lid slightly into the body of the cooker; and that cannot be done until the steam pressure inside the cooker falls to a safe level. Thus Hawkins pressure cookers are pressure-locked for safety - like a jetliner door!

The cooker is heavy but has improved quality of cooking ! One has to be a little vigilant while cooking because the cooker is not similar to the normal cooker with a whistle but it a matter of habit ! Must catch a few you tube videos and you would become a pro ! So the slogan of using the futura cooker is ," if you want a different and improved cooking experience then yiu need to come out of your comfort zone ! " its a learning to use this cooker but is worth it . People might complain about the weight aspect but the weight is what contributes to better quality cooking !

Disadvantages
The lid worked for a month but now does not seal properly and allows steam to escape. Tried multiple times. Now have to see how get the spare part F-10 10. Also be careful of the plastic handle which blisters in a gas with a big flame.

Hawkins should be ashamed of itself for projecting Futura as it's flagship series. It is a terribly ill-designed product and its a shame I can not rate it at ZERO stars or even lesser.Being an NRI, I bought it to be taken and used overseas, delivery came in time. As I had to take it abroad, there was no question of opening it. I took it outsode India and lo and behold! At crucial points at handle, the components had chipped off and broken! With great difficulty I got it repaired by an expert local repairer and after few days, the handle itself is shaking and threatening to come off. Needless to say, if it's lid falls off accidentally, the WHISTLE bit can break off and that would be end of this cooker any way!It is terribly fragile piece of garbage.Any sensible buyer MUST STAY AWAY.....unless...you simply do not have to move it here and there in kitchen and this fragile Princess would more or less remain stationed at one place.DO NOT BUY!!!

I have used it 4 times. Quick cooking. Ideal for 3 to 4 member family. I had same futura bigger one iodised which I have used for 10 years now. I had replaced the gasket just once. Hoping to get same reliability with this too.I cooked Kerala rice directly, which throws water from vials as expected. But when I kept Kerala rice in a vessel instead and closed the vessel with a lid then it cooked perfect.For other stuff which requires less water, feel free to use directly. Be careful cooks really fast. Much faster than u assume. Put less water and stop the moment it starts viasling in case u keep direct

Initial impressions were good. I edited my review after using it for few months. Cooker design is really attractive and we fell into the trap of buying. It's handle, lid and sealing rings not at all fit properly and require extensive tries to fit properly. Handle material is also not good and very fragile. It broke twice even after handling with care. Old design Hawkins cooker is all time best. Recommend not to go with Futura.
